The CEO Action Network (CAN) is proud to announce its collaboration with Jane Goodall's Roots & Shoots Malaysia Award (RASMA) to launch the Sustainability Leaders Apprenticeship for Youth (SLAY) programme, this unique initiative offers RASMA graduates an opportunity to immerse themselves in meaningful ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) roles within CAN member companies, strengthening the pipeline of sustainability-minded professionals while driving corporate innovation in alignment with national development goals.

SLAY builds upon the existing RASMA programme by extending its impact through an all-year-round apprenticeship model. Graduates of RASMA will now have the chance to:

  • Gain hands-on experience through apprenticeships at participating CAN member companies, exploring real-world applications of ESG principles.

  • Access tailored training to deepen their knowledge and skills in sustainability practices.

  • Collaborate with mentors who are thought leaders in the corporate sustainability landscape.

  • Engage in CAN events, showcasing their projects and expanding their professional networks.

Through SLAY, CAN is fostering the next generation of leaders who are ready to champion impactful sustainability practices in the corporate sphere. The programme aligns with CAN’s mission to drive collective corporate action for a sustainable future while amplifying the voices and contributions of youth changemakers.

What is RASMA?

The Roots & Shoots Malaysia Award (RASMA) is a pioneering program by Roots & Shoots Malaysia, a programme of the Jane Goodall Institute, that empowers Malaysian youths to make meaningful contributions to sustainability and community resilience. With over 450 graduates to date, the program provides participants with opportunities for skill-building, hands-on experiences, and fostering environmental and social stewardship.

A Shared Commitment to Youth Empowerment and Sustainability
Dr. Jane Goodall, who turns 90 this year, continues to inspire the world with her lifelong dedication to fostering hope and building peace among species. In 1991, she founded Roots & Shoots in Tanzania, a youth-led programme that empowers young people to take action for their communities, animals, and the environment, fostering the same spirit of hope and collaboration that SLAY seeks to cultivate. Her mission has been a beacon for communities worldwide, encouraging harmony between humans, animals, and the environment.
This partnership represents a significant step in integrating youth-driven innovation with corporate sustainability efforts. By offering a platform for young changemakers to apply their skills within forward-thinking organisations, SLAY not only equips them for future leadership roles but also enables CAN member companies to tap into fresh perspectives and solutions for ESG challenges.
What's Next?

  • Applications for the SLAY programme will open in January 2025.

  • RASMA graduates from any cohort are eligible to apply.
